PANOLA COLLEGE SEEKS SHOES FOR ORPHAN SOULS

The Marines may be looking for a few good men, but the Panola College Circle K members are more practical – they are looking for a lot of children’s shoes.

The Panola College Circle K chapter will sponsor a “Shoes for Orphan Souls” drive on Wednesday, Feb. 12, during the Panola basketball games.   Panola College Basketball fans who bring a pair of new children’s shoes and a pair of socks, will be admitted FREE to both basketball games. The Panola Fillies will play the Tyler Lady Apaches at 6 p.m. and the Ponies will square off against the Tyler Apaches at 8 p.m.

To add a little something extra to this project, Panola College has challenged TJC to have its fans bring shoes for donation also.

“We hope that by involving TJC, not only will we collect more shoes, but we will demonstrate the cooperative as well as the competitive spirit between the schools,” Wilson said.

The “Shoes for Orphan Souls” is one of the organization’s major projects this year.

“This year one of our service projects is to help supply shoes to needy children,” explained CKI President Marc Wilson. “The project is a worldwide project for our organization.  Since 1999, ‘Shoes for Orphan Souls’ has sent over 700,000 pairs of new shoes to orphanages in the U.S. and over 25 countries.”

The goal is to collect a minimum of 100 pairs of children’s shoes by the end of February.   Donated shoes will be taken to the CKI convention in Dallas and then distributed to orphanages around the world by Buckner Orphan Care International.

“Shoes designed for both warm and cold climates and of various sizes are needed,” said Wilson. “By helping us collect new shoes and socks, East Texans can make the difference in the life of less fortunate children.”
