JOSIE NEAL AND FORREST E ROBERTS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP ESTABLISHED

Panola College is proud to announce the establishment of the Josie Neal Roberts and Forrest E. Roberts Memorial Scholarship

Mr. Forrest E. Roberts moved to Carthage in 1934 and was employed by the Soil Conservation Service. In 1935 he married Ms. Josie Neal and they had one son, Forrest E. Roberts Jr. He founded Roberts Implement Company with his brother Roy and had a ranch just east of town, which is the present location of the Carthage Country Club and Sharpe Field. The Roberts resided in Carthage until the late 70s.

Upon Mr. Roberts’ death in 1993, Josie moved back to Carthage to be near her twin brother, John Neal and his wife Sue. She resided in Carthage until her death in 1999.

“This endowment was created by Mr. and Mrs. Forrest E. Roberts Jr., of Aiken South Carolina, in honor and celebration of his parents,” said Van Patterson, Director of Institutional Advancement. “Every Spring when students apply for endowed scholarships they will think of the Roberts, his parents and their generosity. It’s a wonderful legacy and we are grateful”.

The Josie Neal Roberts and Forrest E. Roberts Memorial Scholarship will be awarded annually to a deserving student.  The selection and announcement naming the recipients will be made in the spring each year.   Applicants should contact Van Patterson, Director of Institutional Advancement at Panola College, (903) 693-2029.
