FACT, FICTION AND THE NEW WORLD

On Thursday, October 2, Dr. Archie P. McDonald will present Fact, Fiction and the New World in the Panola College Ballroom at 5:00 p.m.

The program is free to the public and will correspond with the opening of the stunning photo-panel exhibit, FACT, FICTION, & THE NEW WORLD, to be displayed in the Panola College M. P. Baker Library.  A tour of the exhibition will follow Dr. McDonald’s presentation.

Dr. McDonald is renowned as an engaging and informative speaker.  He has taught history at Stephen F. Austin State University for 39 years and has authored more than twenty books on historical topics.  Dr. McDonald’s appearance is made possible by a grant to Panola College by the Texas Committee for the Humanities, a state program of the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Fact, Fiction and the New World is brought to Carthage under the sponsorship of the M. P. Baker Library and the Panola College Arts Department. Developed by the Texas Humanities Resource Center, these bilingual photo-and-text panels highlight the ways in which books and America came together to create a wonderful sense of new possibilities.  Over 90 photos on 20 panels illuminate books, writers, readers, facts and the fictions that went into making a “new world”.

There is no admission charge and the public is invited to attend. The exhibition will be on display October 2 – 22, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Monday through Thursdays; 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Fridays; and 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Sundays.
