PANOLA
COLLEGE FACIAL ESTHETIC PROGRAM
The profession of Esthetics or Beauty Therapy is based on the art of enhancing the face
both physically and psychologically and is one of the fastest growing professions in North
America today. To help meet
the demand for professional
estheticians, this Fall Panola College began offering a new Facial/Esthetic
Certificate program.
A growing number of businesses that have traditionally specialized in hair care are
expanding to include Day Spas. These full-service facilities provide facials, massages,
body wraps, makeup, and natural therapeutic treatments. With the emphasis steadily moving
from basic beauty to wellness and health, the spa has emerged as an integral
part of esthetics.
In the past, esthetics played a minor role in the beauty industry, said
Leah Pierce, Panola College Cosmetology/Esthetic Instructor. Over the last ten years
we have witnessed the evolution of esthetics and today full-service salons, day spas, and
wellness centers are becoming the norm.
Career opportunities vary from Medical Estheticians who work with medical professionals and focus on pre and postoperative care to Clinical Estheticians who work independently within a clinical setting such as a skin care clinic or salon. Earning potential in the field of esthetics is very lucrative. Salaries range from $22,000 to $66,000 per year depending upon location, education, and experience.
When asked about the Esthetic program, student Cynde Lindsey remarked, The experience and knowledge I have obtained
from this program has enhanced my life and attitude. I now have a new perspective
pertaining to health and well being, as well as skin care techniques. Since stress related
health problems are the cause of 80% of most illnesses, the skills I have learned to help
my clients relax will be very beneficial.
