BROOKS AWARDED SCHOLARSHIP

Carthage High School graduate and Panola College student Gabriel Brooks was awarded a scholarship at the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association Convention in Corpus Christi last week.

Eleven students were selected to receive scholarships from a pool of over 400 applicants. Five were awarded to community college students; five went to students attending four-year colleges; and one was awarded for general journalism excellence.

“I am really excited that Gabe was one of the eleven selected,” said Brenda Allums, Panola College journalism instructor. “I don’t think you will find a more dedicated and hardworking student. He is a very competent sports writer and I’m sure that next year the University of North Texas will benefit greatly from his talents”.

Gabriel Brooks is the son of Jeff and Teresa Brooks and is majoring in journalism at Panola College. “Since my dad is an instructor, I grew up around Panola College, said Brooks. “I enjoyed my time here and look forward to continuing my education at UNT. Receiving the scholarship was exciting and it definitely will come in handy next year”.
