Shelby College Center Saves 450 Lives through Volunteer Donated Blood!

(Nacogdoches, Texas)  The Shelby College Center has partnered with The Blood Center-East Texas since 1997 in an effort to assure an adequate blood supply for local hospitals.  Each unit of whole blood donated has been separated into platelets, plasma and red blood cells, allowing each unit of volunteer donated blood to help three different patients.  These remarkable blood drives would not be possible without the hard work of chairperson Mary Frances Johannessen and the other staff at Shelby College Center.

Shelby College will hold their eighth blood drive with The Blood Center-East Texas on Tuesday, April 1st from 7:30 AM to 1:00 PM in the Skills Lab.  “We are so appreciative of donor groups like Shelby College Center that have consistently supported The Blood Center and understand how important it is to maintain the blood supply needed for surgeries, emergencies and for cancer patients”, stated Linda Warner, Manager of Donor Recruitment. “We encourage everyone to come out and join forces with the college and take advantage of this opportunity to save a life!”

Volunteer donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh a minimum of 110 pounds and be in general good health. For more information call The Blood Center at 936-560-3054.
