FROM PANOLA
COLLEGE TO WEST POINT
Jonathan
Bate graduated from Panola College in 2000 with an Associate of Science
degree. Today he is a second-year cadet at the United States Military Academy at West
Point. After completing a full year at West Point, Jonathan is ranked first in his
class of approximately 1000 cadets. This ranking considers cadet scores in the three
primary areas of cadet life: academics, military performance, and physical
performance.
The academic and extracurricular enrichment I
received at Panola was a significant factor in my subsequent success at West Point,
said Bate. The study skills and leadership experience I gained during my two
years at Panola played a major role in helping me adapt to the demanding life at West
Point. I would like to thank the many dedicated members of the Panola faculty and
staff who provided me the tools I needed to serve my country by attending the United
States Military Academy.
While
at Panola, Jonathan was active in the Green Jackets, a service organization that serves as
goodwill ambassadors for the College; Phi Theta
Kappa, and Circle K International, an organization devoted to involving college students
in campus and community service.
Upon
graduation from West Point, cadets are awarded a Bachelor's degree and are commissioned as
Second Lieutenants in the United States Army. Jonathan is an Economics major and
plans to serve in the Infantry after graduation.
