PANOLA’S THOMAS WINS PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARD

 This weekend, Panola College’s Omar Thomas was selected “Player of the Year” by the Head Coaches of the Texas Eastern Conference. The 146 votes he received were well earned because during his brief stay at Panola College, Omar Thomas a freshman from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, has posted some exceptional numbers.  

Thomas scored 1027 points in 30 games this year for the ponies, an average of 34.2 points per game, which is the highest in the nation. He also leads the nation in rebounds by grabbing 519 rebounds, an average of 17.3 per game. Omar made 286 of the 333 free throws he attempted this year, an average of 86%. He also shattered a 30-year Panola College Basketball record of 57 points scored in a single game when he scored 70 points against a visiting team.  

Joining Omar on the first team is Terrence Thomas of Lon Morris, Derrick Payne of San Jacinto, Andre Joseph and Myron Allen of Lee College, and Aaron Hogg of Jacksonville. 

Along with Thomas two more ponies were selected for the all-conference team. Tony Gipson, a freshman, from Farmerville, LA averaged 20.6 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 2.5 steals per game and Zackery Allison, a freshman, from Carthage, TX who averaged 14.1 points and 13.8 rebounds per game.
