“BROADWAY DIVA!” TO BE PRESENTED AT PANOLA COLLEGE

Mezzo-soprano Molly Johnson and pianist Karen McBee will present “Broadway Diva!” on Tuesday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the Q.M. Martin Auditorium at Panola College. The all-Broadway concert includes songs by Irving Berlin, Richard Rodgers, Frank Loesser, and Andrew Lloyd Webber. The show features songs that reflect aspects of life as experienced by leading women characters; however, “This is definitely not a ‘chick’ recital,” says vocalist Molly Johnson. “These characters sing songs that touch the hearts and funny bones of all who hear them – men and women alike.”

Dr. Johnson, Assistant Professor of Voice at The University of Texas at Tyler, holds a D.M.A degree in voice from Louisiana State University. She sings professionally in opera and oratorio and in recitals and concerts throughout much of the United States. She admits her early love of musicals has been a lasting one. “My years of summer stock and touring were wonderful,” says Johnson. “The musical is one of America’s greatest contributions to the world of performing arts. It has become an international art form. I’m proud of that, and I’m looking forward to presenting a concert devoted to the music of Broadway.”

Dr. Johnson will be joined by Karen McBee, Instructor of Music at Panola College. Dr. McBee holds a D.M.A. degree in piano performance from the Conservatory of Music at The University of Missouri at Kansas City. The concert is free and open to the public.
