CISD AND PANOLA COLLEGE RE-AFFIRM COMMITMENT

Panola College and Carthage ISD representatives met recently for their second annual luncheon. “This annual meeting gives administrators, faculty and staff the opportunity to meet face-to-face to discuss programs, coordinate efforts, strengthen ties, and affirm the commitment of both institutions to meet the educational needs of students,” said Van Patterson, Director of Institutional Advancement.

The recently signed Tech Prep agreement between the two institutions is just one sign of that shared commitment. Lillian Cook, Dean of Instruction stated, "Our new tech prep agreement will make it possible for students to earn college credit toward technical certificates and an applied science degree while they are still in high school.  We consider our new partnership with CHS to be an exciting step forward."

Instructors involved in the Tech Prep program were present and include: Ronald Ballard, Melinda Anderson, Cheri Bagley, Johnnie Nix, Penny Boone, Bud Worley and George Smith from CISD, and Dwayne Ferguson, Sandy Payne, Kathleen Schultz and Norma Lawless from Panola College.

Dr. W.L. Sanders, CISD Superintendent, stressed the importance of sharing resources and creating a seamless transition for students. “A 21st century student’s success is dependent upon strategic partnerships and we must reach out and establish relationships with other educational entities,” said Sanders.

Panola College president Dr. Gregory Powell concurred and stated, "What is good for Carthage Independent School District is good for Panola College.  Identifying better ways to serve our students is our primary purpose."
