PANOLA COLLEGE STUDENT NAMED AMONG TOP COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS
Panola College student Lynn
Frederickson, was named to the Texas All-State Academic Team from among students from more
than 50 community colleges statewide. The Texas All-State Academic Team is sponsored by
the Texas Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa International, a worldwide
honor society for two-year college students. Frederickson earned first team status, which
puts her among the top 25 community college students in Texas.
Lynn Frederickson and fellow
team members were recently honored at a ceremony in Austin. Retired Admiral Bobby R.
Inman, a Phi Theta Kappa Alumnus, was guest speaker. Phi Theta Kappa All-State medallions
were presented to students by Mike Watson, Associate Director of Phi Theta Kappa
International. He was assisted by Dr. Reynaldo Garcia, Executive Director, Texas
Association of Community Colleges, and Dr. David Daniel, President-Elect of the Texas
Association of Community College and President of Midland College.
The eight annual Texas
All-State Academics Team celebration is a statewide recognition affiliated with the
national USA Today Phi Theta Kappa International All-American Academic Team,
which was named in April in USA Today newspaper. The USA Today program recognizes
the top community college students among some 1,200 colleges nationwide.
Lynn is an exceptional student and we are proud to count her as one of our own, said Dr. Gregory Powell, President of Panola College. Since these students represent the best of the best among community college students, the competition for this award is very intense.
Community colleges enroll 44 percent of the states higher education students making community colleges the largest sector of higher education. Texas statistics also indicate that community college students who transfer to universities perform as well as or better than students who began their studies at the universities.
