PANOLA COLLEGE STUDENT NAMED AMONG TOP COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENTS

Panola College student Lynn Frederickson, was named to the Texas All-State Academic Team from among students from more than 50 community colleges statewide. The Texas All-State Academic Team is sponsored by the Texas Association of Community Colleges and Phi Theta Kappa International, a worldwide honor society for two-year college students. Frederickson earned first team status, which puts her among the top 25 community college students in Texas.

Lynn Frederickson and fellow team members were recently honored at a ceremony in Austin. Retired Admiral Bobby R. Inman, a Phi Theta Kappa Alumnus, was guest speaker. Phi Theta Kappa All-State medallions were presented to students by Mike Watson, Associate Director of Phi Theta Kappa International. He was assisted by Dr. Reynaldo Garcia, Executive Director, Texas Association of Community Colleges, and Dr. David Daniel, President-Elect of the Texas Association of Community College and President of Midland College.

The eight annual Texas All-State Academics Team celebration is a statewide recognition affiliated with the national USA Today – Phi Theta Kappa International All-American Academic Team, which was named in April in USA Today newspaper. The USA Today program recognizes the top community college students among some 1,200 colleges nationwide.

“Lynn is an exceptional student and we are proud to count her as one of our own,” said Dr. Gregory Powell, President of Panola College. “Since these students represent the best of the best among community college students, the competition for this award is very intense.”

Community colleges enroll 44 percent of the state’s higher education students making community colleges the largest sector of higher education. Texas statistics also indicate that community college students who transfer to universities perform as well as or better than students who began their studies at the universities.
