Panola College OTA Grads Continue Tradition Of Excellence
This month, all 22 Panola College Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) Program graduates passed their national certification exam. The Panola College Occupational Therapy Assistant Program was developed in 1996 and graduated its first class in 1998. The 98, 99, and 2000 graduates have all earned a 100% pass rate on the national certification exam.
When asked about the program, Cheri Lambert, the Director of the OTA program, said,
"Occupational Therapy Assistants work with people of all ages, who because of
physical, developmental, social or emotional deficits, need specialized assistance to
learn skills that will enable them to lead more independent, productive lives. In short,
we help people develop or regain skills for the job of living. The education philosophy of
the OTA program is one of experiential, hands-on education. Students develop and
participate in special events throughout the year where they simultaneously learn from and
enrich the lives of others."
Students and faculty from the Panola College OTA program have been actively involved in
community efforts such as Cinco de Mayo, Easter Extravaganza, a community wellness garden,
CISD Special Field Day, Safe Communities initiatives and Camp Tenaha. Occupational Therapy
is a human service field, and learning through serving others is a critical component of
the OTA curriculum.
Ms. Lambert also said, "I am proud of the graduates and I am very thankful for the
support I get from an excellent staff and administration".
