This fall Panola College athletes will continue their tradition of winning excellence but they will be sporting a new look. A new logo will adorn their uniforms. A logo that symbolizes the strength, pride and winning tradition of the Panola College athletic program.
Since 1948, Panola College teams have established a winning tradition with 3 National Championships, 36 Conference Championships, and 29 NJCAA All-American Players. As a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) and the Region XIV Athletic Conference, the Ponies/Fillies compete in baseball, men and womens basketball and volleyball.
Since 1996, the womens volleyball program has won 5 of 6 conference championships. This year the team brought national recognition to Carthage and Panola College when the NJCAA ranked the Fillies 12th in the nation.
Don Clinton, Interim Athletic Director\Head Baseball Coach and Van Patterson, Director of Institutional Advancement spearheaded the effort to develop the new logo. Jeff Etheredge Asst. Baseball Coach, Scott Monarch Head Mens Basketball Coach, Justin Gibert- Head Volleyball Coach, Dianne Norton Head Womens Basketball Coach, Mike McGowan Instructor of Instrumental Music, Brenda Allums - Instructor\Cheerleading Sponsor and Margie Harris, of Results Advertising in Longview, all contributed to the design. After several meetings and a couple of revisions, Jason Butler a graphic artist from Longview created the logo.
Student and faculty response has been extremely positive. When asked about the logo, Coach Clinton replied "Under the leadership of Dr. Powell, Panola College has taken a more aggressive approach towards marketing. Our new logo is a perfect example of this new progressiveness and aggressiveness. We will gradually add the logo to our uniforms and facilities."
Panola Colleges first athletic event of the season is a double header. The nationally ranked Panola College Fillies Volleyball team will face off against North Central Texas College on August 25, at noon and Galveston College at 4:00 p.m. in the Arthur Johnson Gymnasium. As always, the public is welcome to attend.
