CIVIC CLUB SHOOT-OUT a CLASH OF THE TITANS

On Wednesday night, the Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors, Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary Clubs of Carthage sent their best athletes to Panola College to compete in the Panola College Civic Club Shoot-Out. “The rules are simple, the team that makes the most free throws in three minutes wins,” said Van Patterson.  

At half time of the Fillies game, shooters from the Kiwanis Club - Jimmy (Show Me The Money) Payne, Carleton (Deadeye) Shamburger, and John (They Call Me Mr. Basketball) Almeda, and the Carthage Lions Club shooters - Steve (Nothing But Net) Williams and Corey (Baseballs My Game) Robinson took to the court. The competition was intense but at the end of three minutes the Kiwanis edge out the Lions.  

Competitors from the Carthage Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors – Kay (Hoops) Garret, James (The Iceman) Browning, (Big) Roy Thompson and Rotarians John (Nothing But Net) Wilson, Allen (Too Tall) Tilley, and Van (Net…What Net?) Patterson played during halftime of the Ponies game. “ There was some controversy prior to the shoot-out. A member of the Ambassadors claimed that John (nothing but net) Wilson, was too young to be a Rotarian and was concerned that we had brought in a ringer. After I assured them that we were in compliance with Rotary’s 4-way test, they were ready to play’” said Van Patterson.  After three minutes, both teams left the court looking haggard and worn. As the dust settled and scores were tallied, it became clear that the Ambassadors had slipped past the Rotarians.  

“The Shoot-Out is the brainchild of Brenda Allums. She and her committee are trying to let the public know that Panola College basketball is great entertainment for the whole family. Our players enjoy seeing fans in the stands and we at Panola appreciate her hard work and the support of everyone who participated,” said Patterson.
