PANOLA COLLEGE AWARDED GRANTS TOTALING $125,000
The Telecommunications Infrastructure Fund (TIF) Board tried
something new after the recent grant awards of August 31, 2001. Instead of simply mailing out award packets, TIF
also held an awards conference. Phyllis Reed,
Panola College Library Director, attended the awards conference held in Austin on
September 19, 2001. TIF awarded Panola College $75,000 in technology funding for the M.P.
Baker Library, and $50,000 in technology funding for distance learning.
The conference began with an introduction by Sam Tessen, the
Executive Director of TIF. Tessen spoke of
the agency and its direction and congratulated all of the grantees for a job well done. Following the introduction, Tessen presented each
of the attending recipients with a mock check detailing the amount of their award.
The Director of Grants and Services, Delia Duffey, and the Director of Finance and Administration, Frank Pennington, each discussed information delineating both old and new policies and procedures that, if followed, will help make the grant project successful. The Grant Administrators were also on hand to answer questions.
Receiving these funds is going to benefit Panola College and its constituents immensely, said Reed. We are excited about receiving the grant for updating our library and campus technology and are eager to begin spending the TIF funding for our
projects.
