Strong defensive play in the top of the seventh inning clinched a win for the Panola Ponies Wednesday, Feb. 17.

The Ponies led 7-3 going into the top of the seventh, but Galveston hit three singles, a double and scored two runs, stranding runners on second and third when the Ponies left-fielder made the final out. Final score was 7-5.

Homeruns in the second inning by Jason Barton of Qualicum Beach, British Columbia, Canada, and in the fourth inning by Evan Mistich of Houma, La., set the pace for the Ponies. Kameron Walker of Jonesboro, Ark., John Alexander of The Woodlands, Ryan Westbrook of Lufkin and Austin Vaughan of Rowlett rounded out the scoring.

Pitching for the Ponies were Bunk Coronado of Monroe, La., Weldon Davis of Henderson, and Blake Ware of White Oak.
