Panola College Fillies held off a late rally by Angelina College for a 73-72 win at the A.J. Johnson Gym in Carthage Saturday, Jan. 23.

The Fillies put it all together and gave the 2010 Homecoming audience a heart stopping start to a home doubleheader with a 73-72 upset of Angelina College, the 16th ranked team in the country.

Angelina sprinted out early to an 8-2 lead, but Panola responded well and would wrestle the lead away from Angelina to lead by 12 at halftime, 38-26.

In the second half, Panola went for the knockout and opened up a 16 point lead at 60-44. Angelina responded with a flurry and nearly came all the way back, missing a go ahead three point attempt with 1.3 seconds left.

The Fillies secured the win on the next possession and set themselves up for a run on the second half of the conference schedule.

Angelina came back from a 10-point deficit to threaten the Fillies, but with 16 seconds left in the game, Kelsey Bardsley made two free throws for the win. With three seconds left in the game, Angelina's field goal attempt failed, and Panola held on for the victory. High scorer for Panola was Alicia Mitcham with 22 points, Kelsey Bardsley chipped in with 17, and Sharilyn Reed added 10.

The Fillies travel to San Jacinto College on Wednesday, Jan. 27, for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff.
