Enlarge Try one of the new local restaurants. You don't have to leave Carthage to find a good restaurant. Most Carthage natives think they need to travel to other towns or vacation in faraway places to find entertainment, good food, or relaxation; however, the little town of Carthage has its hidden gems that attract people from across the country and world. Recently Carthage has had a boom in small restaurants opening, many of which are still fairly unknown, these include Divas on Wheels and the Amigos Red Barn and Grill. Divas on Wheels is located on 402 North Saint Mary, next to Northside Christian Center. This restaurant's specialty is home-cooked soul food, meat loaf, cheesy spaghetti, smothered pork chops. If you’re in the mood for lighter fare, they also offer a series of wraps. To buy a home-cooked meal of meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans and a garlic roll, it will cost the same as a ordering a combo meal from McDonalds. It is very much within the price range of the average college student. Daddy Sam’s is a hometown barbecue joint that regularly runs specials that are easy on a college student’s wallet. Their menu ranges from barbecue sandwiches to fried catfish to their new jalapeno sausage. It's possible to walk out of Daddy Sam's with a sandwich, drink and chips for under seven dollars, and they have a reputation to support local events. Kountry Fresh Pizza is also another option in town, provided that you have access to an oven. They make their pizza fresh, and an 16-inch pizza can cost as low as $11.50. You simply call in the order, pick it up, and then bake it when ever you're hungry. It's a wonderful option to the standard greasy fast food pizza. |
