Go Red tomorrow for heart health awareness!

Go Red tomorrow for heart health awareness!

Wear a red shirt this week for Heart Health month!

Wednesday, Feb. 8  is Go Red day from the American Heart Association. Panola College is participating by encouraging everyone to wear red on Wednesday and Thursday.

Even though college students are young, it's never too early to start worrying about a healthy heart. Women especially, who are constantly busy with daily life, don't pay much attention to heart problems. But heart disease and high blood pressure can come out of nowhere.

A few tips to help keep your heart healthy are to watch what you eat and keep your cholesterol down. Walk, even if it's just a couple of laps around the parking lot everyday because exercise is a good way to keep the heart beating strong. And watch your stress levels; college can be stressful, but don't let it consume you, talk to a friend or roommate about helping you stay focused and organized.

For Panola's Go Red activities, nursing students and Sodexo have teamed up to provide heart healthy snacks, free blood pressure checks, hand out literature, and much, much more. Activities are as follows: Feb 8-9; 7am-9am @ the Pony Expresso Cafe; 11am-1pm @ Student Center.

Don't forget to Go Red Wednesday and Thursday.
