Martinez will explain the hero as myth.

Martinez will explain the hero as myth.

Don A. Martinez will be the featured speaker at a lunchbox lecture and book signing on February 7.

Martinez, who teaches developmental writing at Panola College, will speak at noon in the Murphy-Payne communtiy room of the M.P. Baker Library. His lecture will focus on the subject matter presented by two theories: Joseph Campbell's heroic/cosmogonic monomyth(the hero's journey) and Robert Jewett and John Shelton Lawrence's American monomyth (violated Eden rescued by the superhero). A monomyth refers to a hero's journey and is a basic pattern that is found in many narratives from around the world.

Martinez holds a Bachelor of Arts in writing and a Master of Arts in English with a focus in mythology and folklore from Buffalo State College.

Following his lecture, Martinez will hold a book signing. Visitors will be able to purchase copies of his work, including "The Advance Guard" and "Dinetah Dragon." A light lunch will be served. The program is free and open to the communtiy. For additional information please call 903-693-2005 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
