Enlarge Study country music in the spring. Mike McGowan will teach a course on country music in spring 2012. The course will explore the history of country music through the different artists and locations that have shaped this music, according to McGowan. From its beginnings with the Carter Family and Jimmy Rodgers to the Cowboy Music of Gene Autry, the Texas Swing of Bob Wills and the Honky-Tonk songs of Hank Williams, students will see how the beginnings created the Nashville, Bakersfield, and Austin sounds of modern country music. Sign up today for HUMA 1315 for college course credit. People who would like to take the course as co-enrollment, without earning college credit, may sign up through the Workforce & Continuing Education Department. Call 903-693-2067 for details, or stop by the office in the Merle Glass Building on Bird Drive.
