Enlarge Panola will host the Health Fair Wednesday, Oct. 19. Panola's health fair will be Wednesday, Oct. 19. The Panola College Associate Degree Nursing program will host its bi-annual health fair October 19, from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. The fair will be held in the Ballroom of the Phoebe Sue Perlman Student Center on the Panola College Campus and will be open to the community as well as students. The senior nursing students are responsible for all aspects of planning for the health fair as part of their leadership project. Their mission is to promote healthy living and raise awareness about impaired driving, including texting and driving. Blood pressure checks, flu shots, and a blood drive will be available. Lab screenings will also be available for a small fee. The Health Fair will have the Blood Mobile here from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for blood donations," said Karen McClellan, R.N., professor of nursing. "All the blood collected goes to patients in Panola and Harrison counties. We will be doing flu shots from 7-11 a.m. Bring your insurance card or $25." In the parking lot, the Health Fair will feature a texting while driving and drunk driving simulation. "We really want to encourage the students to participate; motor vehicle accidents are the leading cause of death among 16-25 year olds. Ronnie Morton will also have the rollover simulator. The students have really worked hard on this fair so I encourage each of you to attend," McClellan said. |
