Panola College invites area photographers and artists to submit entries for the “Oil and Gas, Yesterday and Today” Exhibit. The college also welcomes photographs from oil and gas companies who have had operations in the area.

The exhibit will run October 1-31 in the Fay Cassity Allison Gallery in the M.P. Baker Library.

Deadline for submissions is Monday, Sept. 27. Photographic entries should be 8”x10” or 11”x14” size prints, and do not need to be mounted. Other forms of art may also be submitted including paintings, drawings and sculptures. Ribbons will be awarded to the top three submissions in photography and art.

The exhibit will coincide with the Oil and Gas Blast sponsored by the Panola County Chamber of Commerce, which is set for Saturday, Oct. 23.  Ribbon winners will be displayed at a Panola College booth at the Oil and Gas Blast.

Teresa Beasley, communication instructor, and Ann Boland, art instructor, are collaborating on the event.

“Living in the gas capital of the world, it just seemed appropriate to showcase this industry with an exhibit in our new gallery,” said Beasley. “We’re hoping that people will share some of their historic family photographs by submitting scanned copies of their originals for the exhibit.”

Historic family photos should include as much information as possible, including the approximate date, location and identities of the people in the picture.

“This exhibit offers us a unique opportunity to archive significant historical photographs from the Panola County and East Texas oil and gas industry,” she added.

Submit photos to Teresa Beasley or artwork to Ann Boland, Panola College, 1109 W. Panola, Carthage, TX 75633, or drop them off at the College Store or Business Office.
