On Tuesday, Nov. 1 the Panola College Division of Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Panola College Department of Instrumental Music, presented a concert that highlighted the students of the concert band, jazz band, and choir of Panola College. The concert band and jazz band were directed by Mike McGowan, and the choir directed by Sandra Bauer. The concert band executed a series of musical selections beginning with the selection of "Attorney General" by Karl King. They then followed up with the selections of "River of Life" by Steven Reineke, "Prelude, Sicilano, and Rondo" by Malcom Arnold and arranged by John Paynter, and a medley of music from "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" this medley is by John Williams and Alexander Desplat. The band then moved on to a patriotic medley of "Taps/American Celebration" that the Panola College Band Director, Mike McGowan arranged with Brant Adams. During this selection Freddy Mason told the poignant story of how the song, "Taps" was created and the reason that it is now played at all military funerals. During this selection the Panola College Choir, directed by Sandra Bauer, accompanied the band. After a short intermission the Panola College Jazz Band took the stage, and opened with the song "Sway" by John Berry. This was followed with "Behind Closed Doors," arranged by Mike McGowen, "Blue Bossa," arranged by Michael Sweeney, "At Last," arranged by Mike McGowan, "Misty , All of Me," which was a Panola College Combo, "Carneval del Sol," arranged by James Swearingen, " Shaken, Not Stirred," arranged by George Shutack, "All I Ask of You," arranged by Mike McGowan, and ended with "Comin' Home Baby," arranged by Michael Sweeney.
