“Thanks to the hard work of its Board members and contributions from citizens of Panola, Shelby, Harrison, and Marion counties, the Panola College Foundation has been able to provide students with additional scholarships this year,” said Dr. Van Patterson, Vice President of Institutional Advancement. “Also, for the first time the Foundation was able to provide grants to fund several faculty projects.”
The Foundation provided eight scholarships this year, an increase of two over the previous year. The organization also achieved a milestone by providing five faculty grants which were used to pay for Elmo projectors for the Health Science Division, a trip for art students to view the King Tut Exhibit, and numerous anatomy models used by students enrolled in pre-nursing, pre-occupational therapy assistant, and medical coding courses. The Foundation also helped sponsor Panola College’s Fall Academic Conference.
“I know that what we are doing is making a positive difference in the lives of students at Panola College,” said Carol Vincent, Panola College Foundation Chair. “At our November meeting this belief was reinforced when Professor Ann Boland stopped by to thank the Foundation for helping sponsor a trip to the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. Ann told us that the trip was special to her because for 20 of the 55 students who participated, it was their first time to ever visit a museum. Later Dr. Greg Powell and Professor Brian Naples joined the meeting to thank us for sponsoring the College’s first Academic Conference. It meant a great deal to know that we had helped expand the educational opportunities for so many students.”
“The projects we choose to support are not extravagant,” Patterson continued. “Instead, we continue to focus on helping students by providing the scholarships and equipment they need to be successful. We are also always looking for additional resources, and the Foundation’s Board members and I will be happy to talk with anyone interested in providing a donation or considering a gift to the Foundation in their will.” For additional information about the Panola College Foundation please call 903-693-2029 or go online to www.panola.edu/foundation.
