Carthage Music Club Announces Myrna Hook Piano Campaign
10/8/08

The Carthage Music Club is making plans to honor longtime member, Myrna Smith Hook, by raising funds to purchase a grand piano in her name. The piano will be located in the Community Room of the newly expanded M. P. Baker Library at Panola College when construction is completed in 2009.

Mrs. Hook has been a well known and active musician in our community for many years. She is a Panola County native and graduate of Carthage High School and Baylor University. Hook taught a generation of students how to appreciate music and play the piano during her 30 year career in the Panola College Music Department. She has also served as an organist at Central Baptist Church, provided private lessons to help train numerous young musicians, performed as the Community Chorus accompanist, and assisted many families with wedding and funeral services. She and her late husband, Bill, had three children, Scott, Brian, and Kristi.

In addition to soliciting donations for the project, the Carthage Music Club has planned several entertaining fundraisers. They include a Christmas concert featuring Keron Jackson on December 22 and another concert scheduled for February 20, 2009 by Stephen Burnman, a former student of Mrs. Hook.

Anyone wishing to participate in this project to honor Mrs. Hook may contribute through the Carthage Music Club which is affiliated with the National Federation of Music Clubs and the Texas Federation of Music Clubs.  The Carthage Music Club is a 501 (C) 3 nonprofit organization. Tax deductible donations should be made payable to Carthage Music Club and mailed to Panola College, Attn: Dr. Lillian Cook, 1109 W. Panola, Carthage, Texas 75633.
