Keron Jackson to Perform Christmas Concert

Keron L. Jackson will perform a free concert on Monday, December 22, at 7:00 p.m. in the Q. M Martin Auditorium at Panola College. The program is sponsored by the Carthage Federated Music Club and will feature Jackson, a baritone, singing a program of Christmas selections. Jackson will be accompanied by pianist Joyce Hughes.

Recently hailed by the Dallas Morning News as "a powerhouse bass voice who takes command of the stage" following his debut with the Dallas Opera, Jackson is a gifted musician who has dedicated his life to serving God through his gifts and talents.

Through his gift, Jackson has been transported to opera houses, national singing competitions, schools, and churches throughout the United States. Jackson boasts a lower, powerful bass-baritone and a charisma that flavors performances, from opera and musical theater to spirituals, gospel and pop music.

Keron has also completed and distributed two recordings: "How Can I Keep from Singing" and "Not Too Far from Here."

Jackson’s life experiences have greatly influenced his career. He tried to make ends meet as a struggling 21-year-old musical actor in Dallas-Fort Worth, often being forced to sleep in his car or to stay with friends or relatives when he could. Later, he enrolled in Panola College and transferred to Baylor as a music major.

"God has given me a voice to sing," he says. "I understand that it is a gift to be able to sing, and I'm thankful for it."

Accompanist Joyce Hughes has been the organist and choirmaster at St. John’s Episcopal Church for 35 years.  She is a retired public school music teacher.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in music from Texas State University and a master’s degree in vocal performance from the University of Houston.

Keron Jackson, a current understudy for the Dallas Opera Company, will perform to benefit the Myrna Hook Piano Campaign.  Donations will help purchase a grand piano for the newly expanded M. P. Baker Library on the campus of Panola College.

The Carthage Music Club is an affiliate of the National Federation of Music Clubs and the Texas Federation of Music Clubs.   There will be no admission charge to the public, but donations toward a piano in honor of Mrs. Myrna Smith Hook, retired Panola College teacher, will be accepted.
