PANOLA COLLEGE HOMECOMING SCHEDULED

“Alumni, current and former employees, students, and friends of Panola College are all invited to attend Homecoming on February 9,” said Van Patterson, Director of Institutional Advancement. “Activities will begin at 12:30 with an Alumni Association meeting in the College Ballroom. This year the Association will be recognizing the current Alumnus of the Year, Mrs. Fannie Watson, and prior recipients, Mrs. Evelyn D. Sharp, Mr. Joe Lawless, and Mr. A.B. ‘Sonny’ Whitaker.”

Lunch will be served at 1:00 in the Studio Theatre followed by baseball and basketball games. At 2:00 pm, baseball fans will enjoy cheering on the Ponies at Jim Reeves Memorial Baseball Field, located just off Loop 436, as they take on long time rival, Wharton County Jr. College.

The Fillies will also begin play at 2:00 pm in the Arthur Johnson Gymnasium. The Fillies will be playing the San Jacinto Lady Gators in an important conference game. At the conclusion of the game, the Homecoming King and Queen Coronation will commence, followed by more basketball action at 4:00 p.m. when the Ponies begin conference play against the San Jacinto Gators.

“This really is going to be a great year to come back to Panola College for Homecoming,” Patterson continued. “In addition to being able to watch some really good sporting events, our guests will be able to watch Panola College’s very own Freddy Mason perform ‘On Caddo Lake, The Life and Times of Wyatt Moore.’ You are not going to want to miss this show. It is an original play by Ben Z. Grant that has been performed at sold-out venues throughout East Texas. The Homecoming performance will be the first time for Freddy to perform the show in his hometown. There will be no charge for this event, however, donations will be accepted. Funds collected will be added to the Panola College Alumni Association Scholarship Fund.”

“For those who would like to get an early start on Homecoming, I recommend they make plans to attend the College’s Athletic Hall of Fame dinner scheduled for Friday, February 8, at 7:00 pm in the Panola College Ballroom,” said Patterson. “This year’s inductees include Coach Bill Defee – Football – 1948-1950, Rudy Jaramillo – Baseball – 1971-72, Peggy Stapleton – W.
