Panola College Student Receives Michele Henderson, RN Memorial Scholarship
Kelly Schultz was chosen as the first recipient of the Michele Henderson Memorial Nursing Scholarship. Kelly is a student at Panola College and is currently enrolled in the associate degree registered nursing program. She has two semesters remaining to complete her degree and works full time at Longview Regional Hospital.
The Michele Henderson, RN Memorial Scholarship was created to memorialize Michele Henderson. Michele was a person with a true passion for nursing who cared deeply about her patients. Unlike most nurses, Michele suffered from a chronic illness, Lupus, which caused her daily joint pain mainly in her hands. Michele refused to let this childhood disease keep her from her dream of practicing nursing. Her dedication to nursing is evidenced by the fact that she worked many days with her hands visibly swollen. Her medical condition gave her a special empathy for her patients.
“This scholarship was established to honor Michele’s life and achievements,” said her husband, Robert Henderson. “Michele graduated from Panola College in 1997 with an associate degree in applied science nursing. The College helped her achieve her goals and for that we are grateful. In return we have created this scholarship to provide financial assistance to others who share Michele’s dream of helping others through the nursing profession.”
This scholarship will be awarded once each year prior to the start of the fall
semester to a second year student in the Panola College Associate Degree RN
program. The amount of the annual scholarship will be $1000.00. Additional
