Panola College Dinner Theatre Scheduled for October

Panola College will present its annual Dinner Theatre October 2, 3, and 4.  The doors to the studio theatre will open at 6:00 p.m.  The show is “Deadwood Dick, or, the Game of Gold” by Tom Taggart and promises a lot of fun.

The show is directed by long-time Carthage resident Freddy Mason who returns as a Panola director for the first time in 15 years.  He has a cast that returns many of last year’s favorites and an amazingly strong group of freshmen from around Texas.

The story is the dramatization of a bloodthirsty dime novel just like those Grandfather used to read in secret. The lure of the Old West of heroes, of Indian raiders biting the dust, of lily pure maidens and black hearted gamblers, of the never ending "Game of Gold" is still with us.

In 1876 Edward L. Wheeler started turning out novels about a Robin Hood of the Black Hills whom he named Deadwood Dick. Overnight Dick became so popular that the series continued for fifteen years. Taking the most exciting situations, the more colorful characters and the most amusing dialogue from these novels, Taggart has fashioned a blood and thunder melodrama. Long lost daughters, stolen gold mines, kidnapped heroines and hairbreadth escapes abound!

The menu includes steak, garlic potatoes, green beans, peach cobbler and salad.  Service at the tables is provided by the cast in character (maybe you won’t have the Villain waiting on you!). For reservations and more information call 903-693-2017 during regular Panola College hours.
