Fillies win, 95-86 against
San Jac; retake fifth place
The Panola Watchman
2/12/08
San Jacinto rallied for 50 second-half
points to threaten Panola in the last half, but thanks to sophomores Kim
Edmondson, Melissa White, Jasmine Brown and Cassie Adams, the Fillies countered
when they had to down the stretch and won at homecoming, 95-86.
The Fillies (16-8, 7-6 in Reg. XIV
East), battled ahead, 46-36, in the opening period with Brown and Adams doing
major damage with 15 and 10 points, respectively.
When San Jac turned up the heat after
intermission, it was Edmondson and White who took charge with 13 and 15 points
in the period.
The victory moved the Fillies away from
a tie with Lon Morris and into sole possession of fifth place in the conference
chase, one game behind Tyler in a tight fight for a playoff berth.
Edmondson and Brown tallied 21 each for team-high scoring honors, while White
finished with 20 and Adams with 13.
Tracey Stellato did a superb job
substituting most of her 13-player roster in and out of the action to keep them
fresh and very aggressive.
Try though they might, however, they
would not rein in 5-8 freshman Darshell Hatch of Alvin, who poured 10 goals -
five from either side of the three-point arch - and five free throws for a
30-point showing.
San Jac went to the line often in the last 20 minutes to take a 12-4 advantage
in free throws, but only one of the Fillies fouled out.
Stellato's liberal use of subs allowed
three others to finish the game with four personals each.
Results of other Saturday games saw Kilgore beat Angelina 86-76, Blinn rip
Jacksonville 84-64 and Lon Morris topple Paris 72-54.
The current standings:
1. TVCC 18-4, 10-1
2. Blinn 20-3, 10-2
3. Angelina 17-8, 9-4
4. Tyler 16-7, 6-5
5. Panola 16-8, 7-6
6. Lon Morris 12-12, 6-7
7. Jacksonville 13-9, 4-8
8. Kilgore 10-10, 4-8
