Merriwether Wins National Title

Ashley Merriwether, a 19 year old sophomore at Panola College, recently won a National Title at the NBHA Mid-South Nationals in Monroe, Louisiana.  Ashley successfully brought two horses back to the final “Showdown Round,” where she won the title.  She was awarded a trophy saddle and a Gist buckle for her efforts. 

Another Carthage native and Panola College student, Tilden Hooper, was crowned the 2007 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association Rookie of the Year after the close of the season the last weekend in September.  Tilden, who is also the 2007 College National Champion, will get the opportunity to travel to Las Vegas in December to be presented the coveted rookie buckle.

Panola College rodeo season starts this weekend at SWTXJC in Uvalde, TX October 4-6, just as some of our rodeo students are having some great success.
