Johannessen Appointed to Advisory Committee on Education
Mary Johannessen RN, BSN, Director of the Vocational Nursing Program at Panola College, has been appointed to the Advisory Committee on Education (ACE) for the Board of Nurse Examiners in Austin.
“I am very pleased to have been nominated to serve on this committee,” said Johannessen. “I believe it will provide a tremendous windfall for our nursing education program.
The purpose of the Advisory Committee for Education is to identify, review and analyze issues in the education and practice arenas that have or may have a significant impact upon the regulation of vocational and professional nursing education in Texas, including approval and evaluation of graduates for licensure. The committee's role is advisory, providing reports and recommendations for Board consideration. Meetings for the ACE committee will be scheduled in Austin at the BNE office throughout the year.
“We are proud of Mrs. Johannessen’s appointment to the ACE Board of Nursing Examiners,” said Dr. Gregory Powell, President of Panola College. “I know that she will bring a wealth of knowledge and experience to the position.”
Johannessen is also a member of the Texas Association of Vocational Nurse Educators (TAVNE) and serves on their Legislative Committee. Vocational nursing directors and instructors of vocational nursing programs throughout Texas who are members of TAVNE meet twice yearly.
