PANOLA COLLEGE HOMECOMING SCHEDULED
“This year Panola College will be celebrating its 60th anniversary,” said Brenda Giles, President of the Panola College Alumni Association. “A lot has changed over the years, but one thing has not. Panola College is still a quality institution of which you can be proud.”
Alumni, faculty, staff, students, and friends of Panola College are all invited to attend Homecoming on February 10. Activities will begin at noon with a tailgate party in the parking lot across from the Fitness Center. Dress is casual.
At 12:30 pm there will be a brief alumni meeting in the Ballroom, located in the Phoebe Sue Perlman Student Center. When asked to comment about the upcoming meeting Giles responded, “To help celebrate our 60th anniversary I will be encouraging fellow alumni to join the Alumni Association as a lifetime member. This year our goal is to add 60 new Lifetime members, 10 alumni from each decade. Half of all the membership dues received will be added to the Panola College Alumni Association Scholarship with the balance being used to promote the alumni association and its activities. Established in 2000, the alumni scholarship has helped many students meet their financial obligations. I hope our alumni will take this opportunity to come together to help Panola College succeed in the next 60 years.”
At 1:00 p.m. the Ponies Baseball Team will take on Wharton County Jr. College in what is sure to be an exciting double header. The games will be played at the Carthage Baseball Complex located just off the Loop. There is no admission fee for this event and the public is invited to attend.
The Fillies Basketball Team will host the Lon Morris Lady Bearcats at 2:00 pm, in the Arthur Johnson Gym. At the conclusion of the game, the Homecoming King and Queen Coronation will commence, followed by more basketball action at 4:00 p.m. when the Ponies take on long time rival, the Lon Morris Bearcats. At half time of each game there will be chances to win door prizes, and one lucky person will have an opportunity to win $2,500.
“Homecoming is always a good time for our alumni to visit the college, renew old friendships, see how far the College has progressed since their time here as a student, “said Giles. “For many this will be their first opportunity to see the “Spirit of Panola” statue and other campus improvements. I hope that past, present, and future Ponies and Fillies will make time to join us this year.” For additional information, please call 903-693-2029.
