Panola College to host prospective adjunct receptions

On Tuesday April 17, 2007, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. Panola College will host a prospective adjunct reception in the Ballroom of the Phoebe Sue Perlman Student Center. On Thursday, April 19, 2007, from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m. a reception for prospective adjuncts will be held at the Shelby Regional Training Center in Center, Texas. 

Teaching university transfer courses requires a master’s degree in the field of teaching or a master’s degree with 18 graduate hours in the field (i.e. English, History, etc.).  Teaching in a technical field requires a minimum of an associate’s degree in the field with work experience in the field.  An exception is in the health science areas.  Associate Degree Nursing requires a master’s degree with RN license.  The Licensed Vocation Nursing program requires a minimum of an associate’s degree with RN license.  To teach in the Occupational Therapy Assistant program a person must have COTA certification as a minimum requirement.

Some of the courses particularly in demand include English, math, biology (especially Anatomy and Physiology), history, government, sociology, geography, psychology, speech.  Technical areas in demand include welding, electrical, air conditioning and refrigeration, hydraulics, petroleum technology, and safety.

Light refreshments will be served, and anyone interested in teaching is invited to attend one of the informal receptions.  Those who are interested in adjunct positions should bring copies of transcripts and any other pertinent certification materials.
