Panola College Offers Continuing Education Classes

 

The Office of Workforce and Continuing Education has announced non-credit courses to be offered on the Panola College Carthage campus.  Enrollment is limited and pre-registration is required.  Interested individuals should call 903-693-4650.

 

EMT Basic – This course will provide the student with skills to function as an EMT.  After successful completion of the course, the student will receive a certificate of completion which will qualify them to take the National Registry Exam.  This course consists of 170 hours of lecture and skills development and 64 hours of clinical experience.  Class fee is $510 (with additional fees collected after class begins of up to $310).  Classes will be held Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, beginning March 19, 2007 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.  Contact Ronnie Morton at 903/693-1153 or rmorton@panola.edu for more information.

 

Computers for Grandparents – If you would like to learn the basics of computing, this class is for you!  In this fun 12-hour course you will learn basic keyboarding, beginning word processing, basic internet and basic publishing.  Instructor Scott Dragoo will teach the course on Mondays and Tuesdays, March 19, 20, 26 and 27, 2007 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.  Tuition is $60.

 

Clinical Aromatherapy:  An Overview – Dr. Barbara Cordell ,  Associate Degree Nursing Director, will provide students with an introduction to and overview of clinical aromatherapy for personal and professional therapeutic results.  The nurse will learn how to incorporate this complementary therapy into daily practice to assist with pain management and infection control.  This two hour course will be Tuesday, March 27, 2007 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM.  Nurses who complete the course will be awarded .2 CEUs.  Tuition is $40.

 

Spanish for Mission Teams – This is a comprehensive course that incorporates the language used by service, volunteer and religious organizations when bringing aid to Spanish-speaking countries.  The student will learn specific language skills to help them pronounce the Spanish commands, questions and phrases pertinent to daily interactions between non-Spanish speakers and Spanish-speaking persons.  No prior knowledge of Spanish is required.  Dr. Barbara Cordell will teach this 21-hour course on Tuesday and Thursday evenings beginning April 17, 2007 from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM.  Tuition is $79.95.

 

Dog Obedience – This fun 6-hour course is designed to give the dog owner basic, gentle methods for training their dog.  Joy Parker will instruct this class Monday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM beginning May 7, 2007.  Tuition is $30.

 

Beginning Guitar – Have you always wanted to learn to play the guitar, but never have?  This class, designed for the beginning student, will teach you simple chords and songs.  Larry Brumley, adjunct professor of music at Panola College, will teach this 10-hour course on Tuesday evenings beginning May 15, 2007 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.  Tuition is $50.

 

What Good is a Wetland? – This course is designed for teachers of kindergarten through 8th grade students.  Participants will investigate the beauty, ecology and utility of a wetland and its usefulness as an educational tool.  The program will include an introduction to the flora and fauna of wetlands and wetland ecology from the ground and a barge tour.  Participants will leave Panola College at 8:00 AM and arrive home at 5:00 PM on Saturday, May 19, 2007.  Public school teachers will receive .9 CEUs for attendance.  Tuition is $65 and includes transportation, park and tour fees, lunch and barge tour.

 

Basic Police Ethics – This 8-hour course is designed for law enforcement officers.  Instructor Bill Offer, a 23-year veteran of the Shreveport Police Department, will discuss ethics, character, decision-making, history of police ethics in America, policies and discipline.  Class will be held Saturday, June 2, 2007 from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  Tuition is $40.
