Panola sweeps past Wharton

CARTHAGE — Miguel Alicea went 5-for-6 with three RBIs as Panola College's baseball team swept a doubleheader over Wharton, 13-3 and 7-3, on Saturday at Jim Reeves Memorial Park.

Panola (3-4) scored eight runs in the third inning of the first game. Kofi Osei-Aning hit a three-run homer in the third, while Alicea added a two-run homer.

Alicea was was 3-for-3, while Osei-Aning, Cody Dietz and Ricky Gardner had two hits each for Panola. Scott Copeland (1-0) pitched three innings in relief for the win.

In the second game, Chad Sherman (1-1) had six strikeouts in a complete-game win, scattering four hits and allowing two walks. Kory Cleveland and Alicea had RBI-singles for Panola.
