PANOLA COLLEGE AND SFA STRENGTHEN TIES
An agreement signed today by officials from Panola College and Stephen F. Austin
State University will take the guesswork out of transferring coursework from
Panola College toward a four-year degree from SFA.
“Many Panola College students choose to transfer to SFA to complete their
bachelor degrees. We are delighted to partner with SFA in simplifying the
transfer process,” said Dr. Gregory Powell, President of Panola College.
The agreement recognizes that, for today’s college student, the transfer from
college to university is not a one-time event, but often a complex process
involving distance learning, course transfers and dual enrollment.
“In order to simplify the process, Panola and SFA have pledged to jointly
develop transfer planning guides and course equivalency guides that will utilize
common course numbers for classes,” said Dr. Tito Guerrero. “We want to utilize
the most current technology to make the transition from Panola College to SFA
simple and convenient.”
Transfer guides are now available on the SFA web site so that students can see
how courses will transfer and how they will fit into degree plans. SFA also
plans to offer classes on Panola campuses this spring – including three courses
through interactive video on the Carthage campus and a forestry course at the
Shelby Regional Training Center.
Development of additional
agreements between individual academic departments at Panola and SFA is
expected. However, some aspects of the relationship between SFA and Panola
College will not change.
SFA financial aid representatives will continue to assist Panola College
students in making the transition to SFA, and SFA will continue to offer $1,000
and $1,500 scholarships to academically successful Panola students who transfer
to SFA.
