Panola Ponies Land Six on Region XIV Eastern Texas All Conference Team
The Panola Ponies landed six players on the 2005 Region XIV Eastern Texas All Conference Baseball Team.
Returning all conference pitcher Dozier Taylor of Springwood High School, who has signed with the University of South Carolina, was selected for the second straight year. Dozier had a 4-1 record in conference with a 2.96 era and 52 strikeouts over 54 innings.
Philip Lynch, another repeat from 2004, was selected with a 5-2 record. Lynch is a graduate of Hamshire-Fannett High School in Hamshire, TX and was also selected to be on the 2005 Region XIV Athletic Conference All-Academic Team with a 3.84 GPA. Lynch plans to further his education and baseball career at Texas State University.
Sophomore outfielder Elliott Roberts, from The Woodlands, was selected with a batting average of .333 in conference. Roberts was also selected to the 2005 Conference All-Academic Team.
Sophomore second baseman, Aaron Cook also from The Woodlands was selected as a utility player to the All Conference team. Cook posted a .367 batting average in conference and was also selected to the 2005 Conference All-Academic Team.
Freshmen selections for the Ponies were third baseman, Drew Bunting, of Langham Creek High School and utility player Josey Parker of Jasper. Bunting posted a .385 batting average in conference, and Parker had a .345 batting average as well as six saves on the mound in conference for the Ponies.
The Ponies qualified for the NJCAA Regional Tournament for the 38th time in school history. The regional tournament will be hosted in Edinburg, TX on May 13-17. The Ponies will play San Jacinto College at 8 p.m. on May 13. Other teams qualifying were Angelina College, Navarro College, Texarkana College, San Jacinto College, Wharton Jr. College, Alvin College, and Blinn College.
