PANOLA COLLEGE HOMECOMING SCHEDULED

Alumni, current and former employees, students, and friends of Panola College are invited to attend Panola College’s 2005 Homecoming on February 26. This year, Homecoming will have a Western Theme complete with Cowboy hats, bandanas and a tailgate party.

The Associate Degree Nursing department will kick off this year’s activities by hosting a continuing education luncheon for nurses, particularly those who are Panola College Alumni. To date over 230 students have graduated from the Panola College ADN program.  The ADN Faculty wants to stay in touch with graduates and know how they are doing.   The event will be informative, and will give our alumni a chance to renew old friendships and help Panola College celebrate the ADN program’s tenth anniversary. For additional information about this activity please send an email to adn@panola.edu or call 903-694-4000.

At 1:00 Panola College will host a Tailgate Party for alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends of the College. Food will be served from a Chuck Wagon located at the parking lot across from the Fitness Center. There will be plenty of good food, music and fellowship as we prepare to cheer the Ponies and Fillies to victory over the Paris Dragons.

The nationally ranked Panola College Fillies will be hosting the Lady Dragons from Paris Jr. College at 2:00 p.m., in the Arthur Johnson Gym. Following the game, the 2005 Homecoming King and Queen Coronation will commence, followed by more basketball action at 4:00 p.m. when the Ponies take on long time rival, Paris Jr. College.

The Panola College Alumni Association will meet at 5:30 p.m. in the Panola College Student Center. “There is a lot going on at the College that our alumni can be proud of and I hope they take the opportunity to attend the alumni association meeting,” said Van Patterson, Director of Institutional Advancement.

This year, Mrs. Brenda Giles, President of the Panola College Alumni Association, has extended a challenge to each graduating class to raise $1000 to be used to construct a bronze statue of a Panola Pony to be located at the Carthage campus. Alumni who would like to participate should send their gifts to Mr. Van Patterson, Director of Institutional Advancement – Panola College – 1109 W. Panola – Carthage, TX 75633. Alumni should make sure they write the year they graduated on the memo section of their check so that their class gets credit.

The Alumni meeting will be followed by dinner in the College Cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. This is a chance for alumni to catch up with old friends in a casual and relaxing atmosphere. Dress is casual and tickets for the meal can be purchased at the door. Dinner is $8.00 for adults and $6.00 for children under 12.

At 7:00 p.m. the Panola College Theatre Department will present To See The Stars, a drama written by Cynthia Mercati. Based in New York City, the play chronicles the events surrounding the first labor strike by women in America. It is the story of a group of young immigrant garment workers in the 1900s who fight for better working conditions. The women of Johansen's Shirtwaist Factory endured many hardships before winning the first industry-wide strike in labor history. Ticket prices are $7 for adults, $5 for students and $4 for alumni. The event is free for students with a current Panola College Student ID.
