The tremendous potential for growth and expansion in the
field of Environmental Technology is creating a need for trained
entry level technicians and the re-training of an existing
work force. The environmental industry is expected to create
some 400,000 jobs in the United States in the next few years.
Employers need workers with skills in the specialized areas
of
environmental monitoring and regulation, hazardous waste management,
and occupational safety. Trained individuals are needed to
ensure the quality of our environment and the health of the
planet.
The Panola College Environmental Technology Program provides
students with skills necessary for a successful career in
one of the many businesses, organizations, or government agencies
involved in surface-water and groundwater sampling and assessment,
poultry processing, and oil and gas production. Other fields
of employment are forestry, and manufacturing. The program
also teaches the software and applications for GIS (Geographic
Information Systems) mapping.
Students not needing college credit may take courses for
continuing education (CEUs).
