Need to Know How to Write a Resume? |

Panola College will offer a class to aid students in creating or updating their resume. Additionally, a cover letter will be created that can be easily customized for any position for which one may apply. Upon completion of this class, participants will have a resume and a cover letter that is ready to be sent to potential employers.

Lunchbox Lecture to Feature Martinez |

Mr. Don A. Martinez will be the featured speaker at a lunchbox lecture and book signing on February 7, at noon in the Murphy-Payne community room of the M.P. Baker Library. His lecture will focus on the subject matter presented by two theories: Joseph Campbell's heroic/cosmogonic monomyth (the hero's journey) and Robert Jewett and John Shelton Lawrence's American monomyth (violated Eden rescued by the superhero). A monomyth, refers to a hero's journey and is a basic pattern that is found in many narratives from around the world. Mr. Martinez holds a Bachelor of Arts in writing and a Master of Arts in English with a focus in mythology and folklore from Buffalo State College.

For more than 76 years, Who's Who Among Students has honored outstanding campus leaders for their scholastic and community achievements. Panola College, along with more than 2,842 institutions of higher learning across the country, submits nominations annually for the national Who's Who program. Panola College is a comprehensive public community college with its main campus located in Carthage, Texas. It serves approximately 2,500 students and the citizens of Panola, Shelby, Marion and Harrison counties. On Tuesday, January 31 at 7pm Panola College will be hosting Tim Mooney's Lot o' Shakespeare in the Q.M. Martin Auditorium. This event is open to the public. No admission will be charged for this special event because of generous underwriting from the Lewis H. Pool Foundation.

To qualify for the President's list, a student must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours with a grade point average between 3.8 and 4.0. Only courses applying toward an associate degree or certificate are included in the computation.

Family Celebrates Achievement |

Ray and Angie Hollingsworth of Winnsboro, Texas celebrated their son's graduation from Panola College by having a paver placed in the College's Walkway of Honor to commemorate his achievement. "I thought the paver was a unique way of recognizing Kanen's hard work, said Mrs. Hollingsworth. "Panola College was a good place for him to begin his college career, and I am pleased that there will always be a reminder that Kanen was here."

Ross Gift Improves Graduation Ceremony |

New Panola College Stage
Panola College's graduation ceremony was a little different this year as a new stage was incorporated into the event. Measuring 16 by 32 feet, the stage allowed the College to add additional seating while at the same time giving parents and guests a better view of the ceremony.

Van Patterson, Marjorie Doggett, Carol Vincent, and David Chadwick
On Thursday, December 8 Mrs. Carol Vincent, Panola College Foundation Chair, Mr. David Chadwick, Foundation Board member, and Dr. Van Patterson, Vice President of Institutional Advancement, met at Farmers State Bank to award Mrs. Marjorie Doggett an iPad2 tablet computer. Mrs. Doggett was this year's winner of the Panola College Foundation Raffle which raised over $6,200. "We are grateful to Mrs. Doggett and everyone who purchased a ticket," said Patterson. "These funds will be used to support various College projects and increase the Foundation's endowment." |

On December 2 Mr. David Murphy, Carthage Rotary Club President, presented Mrs. Carol Vincent, Panola College Foundation Chair, with a check for $1,500. "I am sincerely grateful to the Carthage Rotary Club for its support," said Vincent. "The College is growing and continues to bring prominence to our community. This gift will help strengthen our endowment which in turn will provide long-term support for scholarships, faculty grants, and eventually some funding to help meet unexpected needs of the College." |
