The Career and Technology Association of Texas (CTAT), on behalf of career and technical educations in Texas presented Dr. Joe Shannon, Dean of Instruction, with its CTAT Outstanding Service Award. CTAT promotes quality instructional partnerships with business and industry to successfully prepare every student for the challenges of postsecondary education, a globally competitive workplace, and active citizenship.

Chris Blair and Linda Vickery received the Teaching Excellence award and will travel to National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD)conference and be nominated for the Excellence award.
Nicole McCray Thorn, Head Women's Volleyball Coach
Nicole McCray Thorn was named Coach of the Year in Region XIV as well as Outstanding Coach for the Region XIV Regional Tournament. Coach Nicole Thorn led her Fillies Volleyball team to nationals in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Ann Morris, Dean of Distance Education
In November, Ann Morris was appointed to serve on the Texas Community Colleges Association (TACC) StarLink Learning Advisory Committee.
Laura Wood, Director of Harrison County Operations,
Laura Wood received her credential as CMPI, Certified Manager of Program Improvement, after completing a two year National Leadership Excellence Academy. Texas is one of only ten states that has adult educators who have achieved this certification status.

Steve Williams, Vice President of Fiscal Services
Panola College received a Certificate for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (CAFR). The certificate of achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. Vice President of Fiscal Services is Steve Williams.

Dr. Cook was appointed to the Stephen F. Austin State University (SFASU) Advisory Council for their new specialization in the doctoral program in educational administration and leadership at SFASU.
Ann Morris, Dean of Distance Education Allen West, Director of Information Services
Ann Morris and Allen West secured 1st place for Panola College in the national Digital Community Colleges survey conducted by the Center for Digital Education and Converge Magazine. Panola College was cited as an outstanding example of technology utilized in higher education.
Dr. Gregory Powell Receives Leadership Award
Dr. Gregory S. Powell, President of Panola College, has been selected as the 2010 recipient of the National Council for Learning Resources' (NCLR) Administrative Leadership Award. The NCLR, one of the affiliated councils of the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC), presents the award each year to one community college administrator in the nation whose efforts have resulted in significant support for a learning resources program.
Dean of Health Sciences Dr. Barbara Cordell Presents
Dr. Barbara Cordell, Dean of Nursing and Health Sciences, was selected for a poster presentation at the recent annual conference of the American Holistic Nurses Association in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Her presentation was on "Healing the Air: Essential Oils and Healing the Effects of Tobacco". Dr. Cordell's research was on the use of two essential oils, angelica archangelica and piper nigrum (black pepper), to help reduce cravings for tobacco and increase time between tobacco use. Both oils were found effective.
Professor Kathy Watlington
The American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) is pleased to announce that Kathy Watlington, a Spanish professor at Panola College in Carthage, TX, has been selected as the recipient of the Embassy of Spain/AATSP scholarship (Beca de la Embajada de España) to attend a study-abroad program at the University of Granada in Granada, Spain. This scholarship will enable Mrs. Watlington to enroll this summer in three weeks of study in Spanish language and culture courses. Tuition, lodging, meals and extra-curricular activities are provided by the Embassy of Spain and a travel stipend is provided by AATSP.
