Spring Fling Mud Bug Bash, North Horseshoe Bend
In the fall of 1987 the Student Senate sponsored the First Ever Non-scholastic All-American Invitational Challenge, shortened by the student body to "Fun Day". More than 800 hamburgers were consumed outside the quadrangle, after which students began to engage in events such as an egg toss, a pie eating contest, and a root beer chug-a-lug (Kasey Light won by gulping down two liters of root beer). Then several groups raced off on a scavenger hunt which included such wicked items as a scantron with a grade of 90 or above and a phone bill of less than $25. This lively occasion had roots in earlier events such as Western Day, and continues each semester with the Fall Frolic and Spring Fling.
