Pink Zone game set Feb. 17

The Fillies will play the PinkZone game as a fundraiser for breast cancer research on Wednesday, Feb. 17.

The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Pink Zone game will be played against Trinity Valley Community College. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m. in the A.J. Johnson Gym.

The Fillies will once again suit up in pink uniforms to commemorate the occasion. A silent auction will be held during the game for each of the uniforms worn by the athletes. Audience members and friends may bid on the uniforms of the players and the winners will be announced at half-time of the Ponies' game.

All proceeds from the auction, as well as limited t-shirt sales, will be donated to the WBCA Kay Yow Fund to raise funds for breast cancer research in hopes of one day finding a cure.

"Come out and support the Fillies and a great cause on Wednesday," says Head Coach Tracey Stellato.

Fillies conquer Lon Morris

Fillies conquer Lon Morris

Riding a two game win streak, the Fillies continued their trend of good starts against Lon Morris on Saturday, Jan. 30.

Jumping out to an 8-1 lead, the Fillies played from the front all day and Lon Morris was forced to work that much harder just to stay in the game.  They answered the first challenge, quickly cutting that first lead to 8-5 and they would stay there for the entire first half.  Physical play and defense dominated play for the first 20 minutes.  Lon Morris hung tough. hitting the offensive glass and aggressively attacking the paint early and often.  The Fillies went to the locker room with some momentum however, when Raven Alexander hit a desperation three-pointer at the buzzer to give Panola a 36-29 lead at the half.

The second half saw the Fillies stretch the lead to double digits gradually.  Only once was Lon Morris able to get the game to six points in the second half but timely shooting by the Fillies buried any chances for a comeback.  Kelsey Bardsley fittingly ended the scoring with two free throws.  She led the way for the Fillies with 19 points, Tatsiana Zhurauliova had 13 points and Shay Reed added 10 points.

Fillies sink San Jacinto

Saturday, 06 February 2010 12:48 PM CST

The Fillies defeated San Jacinto in Houston 66 to 52.

The Fillies looked to build on their victory over #18 Angelina on Wednesday, Jan. 27, in Houston and from the start, Panola took the game to the Lady Gators instead of waiting.  Forcing turnovers early, the Fillies jumped out to a 14-2 lead.  In fact, San Jacinto went without a field goal for the first 12 minutes of the game.  Then behind a flurry of threes and hustle plays, San Jacinto was able to hang close and trail by only 13 at the break.

The second half featured several runs by the Lady Gators as they would get the game as close as seven points on four different occasions in the last 20 minutes.  Every time they made a push, Panola had an answer and they finished the game, putting the Gators away by 14 with a final score of 66-52.
