Todd Shelton begins his third season as the Head Coach of the Panola Ponies. Last year, the Ponies finished 39 - 17 while finishing Co Champions in Region XIV Eastern Conference and earning a playoff berth in Region XIV.

Shelton is a 1986 graduate of Conroe High School. He received his Bachelors Degree from Oklahoma State and later went on to earn a Masters Degree from Cumberland University.

Shelton attended and played baseball at McLennan Community College before going on to play for the legendary Coach Gary Ward at Oklahoma State University. As a catcher for the Cowboys, Shelton had the opportunity to play in two NCAA Regional Championships and the 1990 NCAA College World Series National Championship game. Following the 1990 College World Series, Shelton signed and played one season with the Cleveland Indians.

Shelton began his coaching career at Oklahoma State University as an assistant to Coach Ward. He then moved to be the first assistant at the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) powerhouse, Cumberland University. In 1993 Cumberland advanced to the NAIA College World Series.

In August of 1994 Shelton returned to Oklahoma State University as an assistant, and once again the Cowboys returned to the NCAA College World Series in 1996. The next season Shelton was an assistant coach on the National Championship Team at Northeast Texas Community College.

In 1997 Shelton became the head baseball coach at Eastern Oklahoma State College where he led the team to its first NJCAA College World Series in 2001. Shelton stayed at Eastern Oklahoma until 2004.

For the past two seasons Shelton has been on the staff of Oral Roberts University. During that time his teams have participated in two NCAA Regionals and the 2006 NCAA Super Regional.

"We are excited about having Coach Shelton as our new head coach. He brings 16 seasons of experience to Panola College and numerous trips to the College World Series at every level he has coached," said Panola College Vice President of Student Services, Don Clinton.

Jason Causey, Assistant Baseball Coach

Jason Causey begins his fifth year as an assistant coach at Panola College. This will be his third year as an assistant under Coach Shelton. Coach Causey joins the Ponies after a year as an assistant with Henderson State University. In 2004 he served as an assistant at Northwest Missouri State University. In 2003 Jason worked as an assistant at Lyon College in Batesville, AR.

After graduating high school from Baker High School in Baker, Louisiana, Jason began his playing career at Nicholls State University. He then transferred to Southwest Mississippi Community College. Causey finished his playing career at Lyon College in which he was an All Conference first baseman his senior year. He graduated in 2003 with a bachelors degree in History from Lyon College and a masters degree in sports administration in 2005 from Henderson State University.

Dave Gorrie, retired from Pepperdine University, is entering his 11th season with the Ponies at Panola College. He brings 29 years of head coaching experience and 769 wins to the Ponies. Among other honors, he was selected as coach for the United States Team in the Goodwill Games, and he is a member of the Hall of Fame of Pepperdine University, UC Santa Barbara, and of the American Baseball Coaches Association. He also played professional ball several years in the Kansas City organization.

Coach Gorrie, one of the most respected hitting coaches through the United States, has had many ex-players advance to the pro ranks and the major leagues.
