Dr. Greg Powell, President of Panola College, and Biology Professor, Dr. Kevin Rutherford, recently met with Mr. Galen Knight, Manager of the Carthage Walmart, to thank him for a $500 grant provided through the Walmart Foundation. The grant will be used to purchase anatomical and physiological models to educate biology students and those planning to pursue a career in the health care industry.
“Walmart’s generosity will allow the College’s biology department to purchase two new “median section of the head” relief models,” said Dr. Rutherford. “These life size representations of the superficial and the internal structures of the head and neck will show all relevant structures of the human head in great detail. In addition a relief model demonstrating bone structure and a head musculature model which allows students to observe the superficial musculature of a head and neck, the parotid and submandibular glands, deep musculature, and the lower jaw will also be purchased.”
“Panola College is educating more nurses than ever before. As a result, anatomy and physiology courses are increasingly in demand as a greater number of students train for a career in the health care industry,” said Dr. Powell. “These models will help ensure that student nurses and occupational therapy assistants continue to have well stocked classrooms and labs within which to train.”
