The music department at Panola College will be strongly represented at the Texas Music Educators Association Convention in San Antonio February 12-15, 2014. Six Panola students were selected to perform in the Texas Community College All-State Band and five Panola choral students were selected to perform in the Texas Two-Year All-State Choir.
Band members Kayla Hallman, flute, Taylor Reynolds, trumpet, Faustino Angel, french horn, Jose Rojas, french horn, Joel Dales, tuba, and Parker Dickenson, keyboard successfully auditioned for the All-State Band.
Director of Instrumental Music, Mike McGowan, commented that this was the largest group of all-state students from the Panola College band in many years. “These students are very excited to be members of this outstanding group, and they are looking forward to rehearsals in San Antonio,” said McGowan.
The choir auditions were held at Angelina College in Lufkin. Cassie Blair, Veronica Claassen, Shayna Maxey, Trenton Wall, and Taylor Reynolds auditioned and were selected to perform in the All-State Choir. “Many hours of intense and individualized rehearsal are required to learn the repertoire for auditions,” said choral director, Sandra Bauer. “Our students are extremely talented, and I am eager for them to have the opportunity to sing in the All-State Choir.”
