Panola College Dorm named honoring Bill O'Neal
Panola College dedicated the new Bill O’Neal Hall on Wednesday, August 21, 2013 to honor Bill O’Neal, long time faculty member at Panola College. Bill’s 43 year tenure has been capped with a building bearing his name. O’Neal stated, “I don’t know of a higher honor from Panola College than having a building named in my honor.”
The new 64 bed dorm is an apartment style facility. Bill stated in his address to the crowd gathered to witness the ribbon cutting, “The first dorm on campus had one electrical plug per room.” The new dorms are very modern and have two beds per bedroom with a private bath per bedroom and a common living area. Dr. Greg Powell addressed the group and stated, “The Panola College Board of Trustees is extremely proud of Professor O'Neal and his accomplishments. Mr. O'Neal is deserving of this recognition, and we are proud to see his name on the newest building on our campus. Author of 42 books, a Piper Professor, and current State Historian of Texas, Mr. O'Neal continues his long association with Panola College that began in 1970.” The new dorm facility will open to full capacity on move-in day Saturday, August 24.
